‘ernst’ is an experimental art gallery based in Amsterdam founded in 2022. This young gallery is a place where new ideas can freely manifest themselves. An attempt is made to offer a varied program in which visitors make the connections between the works shown, consciously or unconsciously. Founder of the gallery Ernst van de Water enjoys hosting a welcoming platform where he hopes to bring people closer together through art. Together with Emile Weisz and Jasper Rouwen, he aims to create playful and inventive exhibitions, where the curation becomes an artform in itself.
The gallery is located in the heart of the Spaarndammerbuurt, a quiet city disctrict, very close to the centre of Amsterdam, known for its workers’ houses in the style of the Amsterdamse School, with “Het Schip” as the most striking design. North of the Spaarndammerbuurt a new neighourhood has been created: the Houthavens. A neighbourhood on the move, so to say, and therefor a perfect place for a new gallery.
